The EuroCC project

EuroCC is a project launched by the European High-Performance Computing (Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC-JU). EuroHPC-JU is a joint initative between the EU, European countries and private stakeholders to develop a world-class supercomputing ecosystem in Europe. Its goal is to coordinate the effort of the participating countries to deploy exascale (more than one billion billion, i.e., 1018, operations) supercomputers in Europe. EuroHPC-JU also seeks to provide computing solutions, improve cooperation in advanced scientific research, boost industrial competitiveness, among others. More details are available here.
The EuroCC project is composed on different National competence centers (NCC), which are central contact points for High-Performance Computing (HPC), High-Performance Data Analysis (HPDA) and Artificial Intelligence (AI). These NCCs coordinate activities in all HPC-related fields at the national level and serve as a contact point for customers from industry, science, (future) HPC experts, and the general public alike. At the European level, the NCCs are coordinated by CASTIEL.
The NCC are tasked with the following missions:
- Set-up a full training offer;
- Support usage of high-performance computing and data analytics;
- Set-up a framework to ease access to HPC/HPDA to industry;
- Identify available competences at national and European levels;
- Facilitate access to systems, scientific and technical expertise and knowledge pools;
- Set-up communication and dissemination actions.
They are distributed among different work packages (WP). At the Belgian level, they are 7 of them:
- WP30.1: coordination;
- WP30.2: training and skill development;
- WP30.3: ?
- WP30.4: ?
- WP30.5: ?
- WP30.6: ?
- WP30.7: Awareness creation and collaboration.
